Understanding the CHS
Who is the course for?
This online 2-day ‘Understanding the CHS’ workshop is for those looking to gain a general understanding of the key elements of the 2024 CHS and how to apply it in their work.
The course is open to a broad global audience, including:
• Anyone working in the humanitarian and/or development sectors who has an interest in knowing more about the revised 2024 Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)and its implications for policy and practice in international, local and national NGOs.
• Individuals who have existing experience in humanitarian and/or development will benefit most.
The course will cover the main key elements of the 2024 CHS. Participants will have the opportunity to relate their learning to their current work and share examples of challenges and good practices from their experience of working in humanitarian and/or development settings. The workshop will provide space for peer learning amongst the participants through discussion, brainstorming and storytelling in small groups.
Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
• Understand the 2024 CHS and its purpose.
• Explain how each of the nine commitments of the CHS contributes to delivering and supporting quality and accountable action and support for people and communities in situations of crisis and vulnerability.
• Give examples of good practice in applying the CHS and its nine commitments, drawn from their own and peer experience and more widely from different sectors.
• Act as advocates and peer leaders on the importance of quality and accountability for people and communities.
• Explain the advantages and processes for the three different CHS verification options.
Pre-workshop assignment
Before joining the workshop, participants should read (and, ideally, re-read) the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) 2024.
