This manual presents the methodology, tools and processes for organisations conducting their Self-Assessment against Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS).

The CHS Alliance has developed a standard process and tools to allow organisations to measure their performance against the CHS. These are designed to help organisations undertake the exercise in as robust and representative a way as possible, while adding as little as possible to workload.

Organisations are strongly encouraged to use the process and tools including the CHS Commitment Tracker, an online platform that facilitates the self-assessment process. However, recognising that the exercise remains a Self-Assessment, organisations who may struggle with some of the steps or requirements are welcome to engage with the CHS Alliance team to find tailored arrangements to help them.

Who is the manual for?

This manual is primarily designed for the focal point of an organisation conducting the CHS self-assessment. It can also be a helpful reference for anyone supporting the organisation’s efforts towards completing its self-assessment.

Who can conduct a CHS self-assessment?

Any organisation can use the tools developed by the CHS Alliance to conduct a self-assessment. However only CHS Alliance members can have the process of their self-assessment validated by the CHS Alliance secretariat. Once their self-assessment is validated, CHS Alliance members are issued a letter and a stamp to recognise their commitment to the CHS.

Please note: all of the data collection tools are administered online through links provided by the CHS Alliance. The offline versions of all surveys are linked below for reference and to support with data collection.
