Fiji Council of Social Services
The FCOSS aims and objectives are:
(a) to foster solidarity, coordination and networking amongst its members and the greater civil society movement for people-centered development and localisation;
(b) to advocate for community access to improved social services and humanitarian support through our active participation in policy engagement and influencing;
(c) to develop effective communities of practice that leverage the lived experiences and knowledge of local people and community volunteers in responding to development challenges;
(d) to uphold good governance within the organisation, its membership and the civil society sector in Fiji; and
(e) to manage the assets and resources of the organisation for its long-term sustainabilit
Since 2018, FCOSS has not only revitilised its participation at the National Disaster Management Council, National Coordinating Committee for Children & joined the National Climate Finance Working Group It has also revived its local community networks called the District Councils of Social Services from which much of its local humanitarian work has been driven. It adopted new constitution, reviewed internal policies to support the delivery of its CSO Humanitarian Coordination role as per disaster management law It developed a new work focus on access and agency through Public Finance Management, strengthened CSO advocacy on SDGs, accelerated localisation in humanitarian & Covid 19 response between 2019 to date. It carried out and supported more than 10 surveys for its work on humanitarian response and spearheaded the development of policies, standards and guides for Fiji CSOs in humanitarian action.
